Activity 4.3 Workplace Reflection
Identify an incident in your workplace that had a negative outcome. · List and analyse the events that took place. · Identify the factors involved. · Discuss how this event could be prevented. |
In this question you have been asked to reflect on a nursing intervention which had a negative outcome (i.e. an undesired result). Though you can choose any incident of your choice, weather imaginary or real.
In this incident, a consumer who was admitted in acute mental health facility and refused to take medications. The nurses who were responsible to ensure client’s wellbeing did not take any notice of the refusal of medications by the consumer. This resulted in a negative outcome as the client’s behaviour was significantly aggressive and irritable.
There were numerous factors which lead to the aggressive and irritable behaviour of the client which include nurses misinterpretation of the situation, lack of proper communication among the nursing staff members, paucity of time due to work overload which in turn resulted in a weak therapeutic relationship between the client and the nurses who were directly involved in his treatment, however, such an incident could have been prevented by employing risk reduction techniques and educating the clients as well as the nursing staff to prevent such incidents.
This is just an example of how you can write down an effective reflection of a situation of this kind. Please use you academic writing format (Arial 10 1.5 spacing) also give 8-10 references (peer reviewed articles). You can use Gibbs Model (attached) of reflection to write this assignment.
