Class title: Religion in the U.S. Today

Write an essay on each of the three chosen texts. These essays (of about three pages each) should describe the book, focus on the authors arguments, and point of view, and offer their own reflections/analysis/critique of the authors presentation. (Very importantly, there is no right or wrong choice on the direction for these essays; students will be choosing to shape their essays on a topic/problem of interest and value to them.) The student’s short essay should gain strength as detailed discussions of the reading; that is, over time, the essays should show that they have made more successful efforts to organize ideas and present materials in an effective way. Their own conclusions will be an important part of each essay. Quotes from the materials should be contained in each essay and properly referenced.
