Write a three-page analysis of how the plot of an opera is formulated in such aspects of the opera as the recitatives, the arias, and in the form of duets and trios. For this assignment, you will need to view an opera found on video or DVD. Traditional options include:

Carmen

Tosca

Aida

Your version must include a copy of the Libretto and the text, which may be found in subtitles. View the opera once while taking detailed notes. A second viewing of the opera will help clarify your understanding of how the music accompanies the words of the story. Additional instructions are found in Unit 1 Notes.
