MICROBIOLOGY
“Disease Project” is an individual student assignment. I will provide you the list of the topics that you will select for this project. This project is twofold; the first is writing the synopsis of the disease, and the second is the PowerPoints, the project worth 50 points.
- Synopsis (10 points)
The student will write the synopsis of the project as directed below (15 points)
- Font size 12,
- New Roman / Arial
- Double space
- 375 word essay (1-2 pages)
- Properly cite your resources
- Submit your synopsis on CANVAS
- Disease Project Instructions (40 points)
***Every person will sign up for a DIFFERENT DISEASE. *** This is the disease that you will use for your Disease Project (the synopsis and oral presentation).
“The following eight components should be included in your disease synopsis:
Causal agent/Reservoir/vector
Method of transmission/incubation
Disease symptoms and signs
Diagnostic test
Two most common treatment(s)
Mechanism of disease
Target organs/cells
Differential Diagnosis (with what other diseases is it confused, how can you tell the difference between your disease and others?)
New Development in your assigned disease (5yrs) This NEW development should explore in depth a new discovery regarding your disease (last five years).
References: Use PubMed or CDC to find the relevant information on your disease. For example, recently discovered complications, a new set of treatments, new diagnostics, a new population that has become more susceptible. You can check your textbook and Wikipedia for information, but they CANNOT be a reference!
Extra credit: Oral Presentation: If you submit the recorded oral presentation with your PowerPoints of the assigned disease on CANVAS, you will earn 15 points (bonus points) for the oral presentation. Presentations will run no more than 10 minutes, which can then be followed with up to 3 questions from the class/instructor.
