The Declaration of Independence states:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Your thesis is that “efforts to provide relief and assistance to the poor” most clearly reflected this idea between 1890 and 1945.

Write a paper of at least 1200 words (four typed, double-spaced pages) in which you trace the development of the theme from 1890 to 1945. How did the theme develop (politically, socially, etc.), and why did it reflect the ideals of the Declaration of Independence?

You must use AT LEAST THREE PRIMARY SOURCES and AT LEAST TWO SECONDARY SOURCES. You may do additional research online or in a local library. If you do research online, make sure you are using scholarly, reliable sources.

Cite all sources correctly. Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, which may be accessed online or in many libraries. Include a bibliography at the end of your project.
