Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to show aspects of American history stayed the same and what changed in the period 1916 – 1940.
Objective: For this assignment, you are required to examine continuity and change over time. CCOT projects are a comparison essay where time periods are compared. The issues on the change-over-time essay tend to be global ones such as technology, trade, demographics.

Task Create a Graphic Essay or Illustrated Timeline in response to the following prompt:
Analyze the continuities and changes of the following topics in American History between 1916 and 1945:
technology
civil rights/feminism
immigration/emigration (people coming to America and people moving from place to place in America business/finance
warfare
demographics
ideas about “democracy”
foreign relations

Include information about:
the big picture events that are going during this time period (You must explain what is going on in the world/in America that caused the continuity.)
the historical development of major events (what caused it and what it led to)
What remained the same and what changed over time.
Illustrate your presentation with art or photos from the era
Resources: To complete a timeline, use the programs Prezi, Tiki-Toki or Sutori templates
To complete an illustrated essay, simply use Word, Keynote, Adobe PDF or another word processing program, and insert your graphics.

Steps Introduction:

What things about your topic remained constant?
Why did they stay constant?
What events allowed them to remain constant?
Illustrate with art or photos the “big picture” events that are going during this time period and explain how they caused the continuity.
The historical development of your chosen event (what caused it and what it led to) that shows something continuous during this period.
Analysis: about 2-4 continuities and their evidence (examples of what happened) and analysis. (For example: One continuity that occurred in (topic) was (first category). The reason for this continuity is because (analysis). An example of this would be (evidence specific to the topic).
Section 2: Changes. (At least 2)
What event was occurring/occurred (this can be the same or another event that occurred during the time period that you mentioned in your continuities section)
Why did this event cause changes? Connect this to your topic (Think about the big picture events that are going during this time period)
What is going on in the world that caused the changes? (include the historical development of an event: what caused it and what it led to. The context must be relevant to the topic.
Analysis 2-4 changes and their evidence (examples of what happened and their analysis. (For Example: The reason for this change is because (analysis). An example of this would be (evidence needs to be specific to the topic).
Section 3: Conclusion.
Make additional connections by bringing the theme or topic forward to “today” either by explaining how the theme would undergo further changes as we see it move forward in history, or how it would stay the same.
