Low uncertainty avoidance countries tend to be good at basic innovations (new ideas), but high uncertainty avoidance countries are better at turning those basic innovations into marketable products and services. It appears that coming up with new ideas calls for comfort with the unknown while developing ideas into something that can be sold entails careful and detailed elimination of risks and uncertainties (Hofstede, Hofstede, & Minkov, 2010).

If you were in charge of HR for an international firm that sought to build its business by discovering and commercializing new product or service ideas, how would you use this research on uncertainty avoidance in your staffing strategy? Which countries would be best for generating ideas, and which countries would be best for developing ideas into commercial products or services?
