Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to further your understanding of attachment styles by applying the theory to your own development or by watching a documentary and applying the theory to the participants. Instructions Use the Academic Project Rubric to guide your project. You have the choice to produce a slide deck (PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.) or to create a multi-page infographic or educational brochure on an application like Canva. Make sure that the file you upload to the assignment submission folder is either a PowerPoint or a PDF file. Other file types will not be graded due to being inaccessible with the assignment submission tool. Your slide deck, brochure, or infographic may use bullet points and illustrations to organize and convey information. Slide decks should be approximately ten slides total, with citations on each slide to show source use, plus a slide for APA references. Here is the format your document should follow:
Introduction On your first slide (or first part of your brochure or infographic), present an introduction to attachment theory, including a thesis about the significance of attachment theory in understandings of human development. Four Types of Attachment Styles Next, review the readings, which present four different types of attachment styles. Summarize all four styles in detail, each on a separate slide or section of your document. Reflection and Analysis In the slides or sections that follow your description of attachment styles, choose either to reflect upon and analyze your personal experience with attachment (Option A) or the behaviors exhibited in the film Babies (2010) (Option B).
Option A: Personal Reflection Reflect on your social behavior as an adolescent and now in your adult relationships using specific examples from your life and at least three scholarly sources to support your analysis. How might your experiences in adolescence and adulthood express a specific attachment style learned as an infant? Why do you believe you have a certain attachment style? Provide specific examples and an explanation using scholarly information from the textbook and other academic sources to show you can effectively and correctly apply the theory. If you are having difficulty identifying your attachment style, feel free to use these websites: Attachment Style 1 and Attachment Style 2.
Option B: Film – Babies For this option, you will watch the movie Babies (2010), which will require you to rent through Prime Video, Google Play, iTunes, Fandango, Vudu, or Youtube. After watching the film, answer the following questions while citing specific examples from the film and at least three scholarly sources. Attachment in Infancy and Early Childhood: Why is it important to be aware of attachment during infancy and early childhood? Secure Attachments: What specific behaviors and interactions did you notice in the movie that might produce a secure attachment? Insecure Attachments: What specific behaviors and interactions did you notice in the movie that might produce an insecure attachment? Cultural Differences: How might attachment style manifest differently in these four cultures? Conclusion Provide a concluding slide. If choosing Option A, present a final conclusion on your understanding of attachment theory and what it has illuminated about your own development. If choosing Option B, present a final conclusion on your understanding of attachment theory and what it has illuminated about your understanding of the four cultures represented in the movie.
