QUESTION1: Who is the client system…Cam, Abby, the family…please explain and defend your position.
Briannas answer To question 1: Provide a FEEDBACK ANSWER THAT YOU NEED TO RESPONDE TO: The client system is Cam and his entire family. They do depend on each other in order to accept the changes that Cam wants to make in his life. They were okay with the lesbian part when he mentioned it when he was about eleven or twelve, I guess because they thought he would outgrow it. Abby says they are willing to support him, but they only support the physical changes of Cam’s transition. Cam has been wanting a name change for months and his mother keeps saying she is always too busy or they will have to wait until Abby feels better about the transition. His sister is very supportive and will call him whatever he wants, but the mother cried and the father shut down. The mom seems to pull out old childhood photos probably as a tactic to make Cam want to refuse going through the transition. Abby wants Cam to keep feeling bad which shows how unsupportive she really is and she keeps calling Cam “her little girl”.

Ronda’s answer To question 1: Provide a FEEDBACK ANSWER THAT YOU NEED TO RESPONDE: The client system is Cam, Abby, Cam’s father and Cam’s sister. The client system regarding a social worker is the group of people that a social worker is responsible for helping with providing services. In this case the client system is Cam, Abby and the family and my position as a social worker is to provide services to client that are helpful and doesn’t put the client in harm way. The position as a social worker is to provide guidance to my clients. Lastly, the client system case is working toward a common the goal of assisting Cam as he transitions and doing what is best for the child. While the social worker has to do what is overall best for the quality of life of Cam and making sure if she decides to provide a evaluation she would had address the family issues first or at least work toward establishing the issues and working toward a solution. Lastly, I feel Cam and his family is the client system because that is who is around right now and his Cam system may change once school starts because that will account for how he interacts with other children his age and his surrounding.
Question 2: What is the role of social workers in providing HRT evaluations? What are the advantages of providing Cam with a HRT letter indicating he is psychologically cleared for HRT? Disadvantages?
Ronda response to questions 2, GIVE A FEEDBACK ANSWER THAT YOU NEED TO RESPONDE: I agree with you when you stated what the SW worker role is in regarding to a HRT evaluation. However, I also feel it is the SW role when working with any client to evaluate the person’s mental state not just transgender clients. One thing that you wrote that I also agree with is that social workers have a ethical responsibilities to the transgender community because their is a large amount of discrimination goes through their due to how the identity. Social Workers also needed to educated the clients on both the risks and benefits of HRT so they will be aware and the impact it could have on a person’s body. There are several advantages but one of the disadvantages I see of providing Cam with the HRT evaluation at this point would be that the family had not deal with any of the family issues which could cause issues in the future if he gets HRT which can lead to battle with depression.
