After reading Chapter 5 and 6 above and review the video link above and answer the questions below. Your response to each question should be at least 100 words. The response must be based upon material provided above. Be sure to address the following aspects:

1)  What factors brought about the downfall of the Roman Republic?  Name at least one similar factor in today’s culture and explain why you picked that particular one.

2)  With the Christian faith divided between Rome and Constantinople the power was split in two.  Would it be beneficial for these two groups to merge today?  Would one be viewed as more valuable or powerful today?  What about their ability to withstand the spread of Islam – are they more capable together or separate?
