Pick any piece of music that has special meaning for you and explain why it does. This piece of music needs to be on Youtube if the piece is obscure.
Although the music doesn’t necessarily have to have lyrics it is very useful if it does so you can tie the words into your discussion. You need to discuss the following things in this assignment:
Who wrote it/recorded it, what is the title, when it was written, album it was on, position in charts, why it was written, etc.
What creates unity and variety in the piece as defined by your book.
Tell about the performer’s role in the piece as defined by your book.
Talk about the structure of the music as defined by your book.
Discuss the purpose of the piece as defined by your book.
Discuss the musical connotations/meaning the piece has for you. The content (measured from first word of the first paragraph to the last word of the last paragraph) should be no shorter than one full page.
