Research shows that one of the most important factors in doctoral degree completion is the relationship a student has with his or her chair. This falls under the heading of professional dispositions. What skills might you need to ensure a positive experience with your chair? Success in this relationship requires realistic expectations and appropriate preparations.

A professional working relationship with your chair is essential but not automatic. This is an aspect of professional dispositions. Consider carefully the habits you will hone in order to develop and maintain an effective relationship with your chair.
