Summary of Topics in Research Paper
1. What is the current law regarding this topic?
Regarding this topic, abortion has it’s own set of laws. According to the article, Abortion from Bioethics Briefings
by Bonnie Steinback, it explains the constitutional rights of abortion in depth. Additionally, nearly 50 years ago,
there was a Constitutional Right of abortion in the United States which was established by the Supreme Court in Roe
v. Wade in 1973. Each states has it’s own abortion laws, and as of today abortion is protected by state laws in 21
states which makes the procedure completely legal throughout pregnancy.
2. What is the historical perspective (if any)?
The historical perspective on the case study relates to Roe V. Wade court case. In simpler terms, the Roe V Wade CourtCase was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the court ruled that the Constitution of the United States conferred to have the right to have an abortion. However, if Roe’s V. Wade’s argument was not acknowledged and approved by the Supreme Court years ago, SP the 35 year old woman would not have been allowed to abort her other fetuses according to the case study.
3. What is your ethical opinion of this case? Support your opinion with 1 reference and one theory or principle of ethics.
Personally, my ethical opinion regarding this case is that abortions are justifiable. Specifically, utilitarian is the best theory when discussing abortions because this case study coordinates from wrong vs right. Additionally, just 7% of all U.S. adults say abortion is morally acceptable while 13% say it is morally acceptable wrong in all cases.
4. After investigating the ethical perspective, has your opinion changed?
Yes or No
5. Why or why not?
After investigating the ethical perspective, my opinion has not changed. There are many arguments both in favor and against abortion in ethics.
