There are economic inequality concerns too—poor defendants with public defenders are more likely to be sentenced to death than defendants who can afford a private lawyer and forensic experts. Be sure to include the Supreme Court’s decisions on the death penalty. They have limited the situations when the death penalty can be used. Given the pros and cons you have listed, what should state legislatures do? Can we reform the death penalty? Or should we abolish it?
