Using the data summarizing and categorizing strategy chosen in DQ 1, identify the strongest piece of evidence you collected for your project and provide at least two reasons why you think it is the strongest. How will you use these data to tell a compelling public health story and communicate recommendations for action?
THIS IS MY POST FROM DQ 1:
Information can be summarized in two primary ways, namely descriptive summary, and evaluative summary. Descriptive summary majorly deals with the expressing of facts. It shares the main points and supporting details that may be of importance. Furthermore, there is no writer’s opinion in this kind of summary whereby the writer conveys the essential elements by the use of possibly a few words of the item to be summarized. In an evaluative summary, the writer is needed to essay the item to be summarized. This summary depends mostly on the opinion of the writer and a few facts from the information being summarized. The writers look at how the information can be useful to them and where it falls short. A descriptive summary is good when expressing facts but disadvantageous as it deals with an audience that is current self and others, while evaluative deals with all three audiences’ current self, future self, and others. Evaluative contains bias as one omits information that they feel does not suit them.
For this project, I would propose gathering quantitative data to use the relationship between two variables. In contrast, for the qualitative data, I propose using recordings, transcripts, and videos for easier understanding (Early & Stanley 2018). Furthermore, I would propose the use of surveys to gather quantitative data on dietitians and nutritionists, while for the qualitative data; I would propose the use of perspectives. For the qualitative data on educational programs and healthy lifestyles, I would commend the use of perceptions of the community (Kaye et al., 2017). For quantitative data, I would gather data by measuring one subject in relation to another as it discourages bias.
For this project, I would use an evaluative summary as my strategy. This is because it includes all the three audiences, current self, future self, and others, which is not possible for a descriptive summary. In this project, the writer’s opinion on the data is needed, and evaluative allows that thus the most suitable strategy.
