Interview a program supervisor/director of an early childhood development program or family child care home. Here are some questions you might want to include in your interview. I would recommend asking the person if you can record the interview to support you in the note taking process.
Background information: Program/site? Person being interviewed? How long in the field? As a supervisor?
What made him/her decide to become a supervisors?
What challenges did he/she face as a new supervisor?
What are the characteristics of an effective supervisors?
How do you stay current on early childhood best practices?
How do you support staff in setting professional and personal goal?
How do you identify and address staff needs….program needs?
How do you meet the diverse need of the staff in the program?
How do you balance the demand of the program needs and policies, regulations, and funding guidelines?
What advises would you give to a new supervisor? Why?
Is there anything else you think I should know?
Type a 2-page paper that is based on research, readings and the interview. Make sure to address the following prompts:
What are the important qualities/characteristics of an effective supervisor
What are the challenge/rewards of being a supervisor?
How can you apply the supervisory skills to current work setting?
Your paper needs to be in APA format.
Include 2 intext citations in the paper.
Attach a copy of your interview questions and responses as Appendix A in paper. I will send the two intext citations and the book for references, also the questions.
