Self-Assessment of Specialty Clinical Practice
Nurses are problem solvers and train to become critical thinkers who are consumers and users of evidence-based research. In other words, nurses tend to be learners. Like many other learners and professionals, nurses can benefit greatly by learning more about themselves.
Self-assessment is a valuable learning tool as well as part of an assessment process. Through self-assessment, nurse students can set realistic goals, identify skill gaps, and track progress.
This week, you examine self-assessment of specialty clinical practice. You consider the application of knowledge in clinical specialty areas, and you self-assess your own advancement of knowledge in your particular specialty area.

In your practicum, you were given an opportunity to observe and reflect on your clinical experiences and write journal entries related to those experiences. This final journal entry will be somewhat different in that you will share your personal assessment of how you are advancing and applying your knowledge in your clinical specialty area. This journal entry will remain private and shared only with your instructor.
Self-Assessment Journal Entry (450–500 words): Explain how you perceive as a result of this course that you are advancing and applying your knowledge in your selected clinical specialty area. Describe how your application of advanced health assessment skills, advanced pathophysiology, and advanced pharmacology have improved and expanded. Provide examples from your clinical experiences.
