SCL 191 Future of Feminism Report
We live in an important time of social reckoning with historical injustice, as is evident in the recent social movements #BlackLivesMatter, #IdleNo More, and #MeToo. The quest for racial, social, and gender equality is always ongoing, but the future of these movements is far from certain. This assignment asks you to examine one particular social movement, feminism, by examining its past, present, and possible futures, by creating a micro study of a specific issue related to the ongoing movement.
This 5 page report (excluding title page and Works Cited) asks you to examine an aspect of feminism and how and when it came to be a feminist issue, what the current debates are around the issue, and what the future looks like concerning how the movement will address the issue in the future. Keep in mind that feminism is not a unified philosophy, but a set of competing ideas, so be aware of divisions within the movement regarding your selected topic. Using Chapter 6 of the text and a minimum of three outside sources available on line, examine the past, present and future of the following topics:
Topic: Political representation
Important note: Political presentation is related to the first wave of Feminism
For your topic, use the ‘History’ section of identify the ‘wave ‘ of feminism that it is most closely associated with, landmark legal and social fights around the issue, and who championed the cause. In the ‘Present’ section, describe the current state of the issue – is it resolved, under threat, not being addressed etc.? In the ‘Future’ section, use your analytical skills to assess where the issue is headed, the likelihood of resolution, and what future debates might shape the issue.
You will be assessed using the following criteria:
Content: All information is accurate and supported by relevant research, major debates about the issue are clearly identified, and a clear understanding of the historical evolution of the topic is present, as are the current state and future prospects of the debate /25
Analysis: Analytical skills are used to assess the current state of the debate, as well as projections of what the topic might look like in the near future, critical assessment of different feminist perspectives around the issue are examined, key political and social developments are placed in the context of the time in which they occurred /25
Organization: Information is presented in complete sentences and organized paragraphs, topic sentences are evident, all three organizational categories are present /25
Style: Paper is free of grammatical and spelling errors, proper embedded citation is observed, academic tone is maintained and colloquial language is avoided /25
