To research about Wang Shu, a contemporary architect, the origins of his/her background and philosophy towards design, and how that work relates to the original triumvirate of Mies, Corbu and Frank Lloyd Wright. In addition, you are asked to investigate how tWang Shu’s work was inspired or influenced by the surrounding local context.

– Understanding of the 20th century roots of modernism and contemporary architecture.
– Ability to recognize the work of a variety of architects from around the world.
– To be able to analyze an architect’s body of work and decipher what were the origins of their inspiration, and who has followed them.
– Identify and explain the strong connection between architecture and culture
– Explain how architecture was a reflection of the community at which it was developed.
– Evaluate concepts in a creative and critical manner with respect to their relevance in generating intelligent, inventive design solutions.
2. Then you should prepare a PowerPoint presentation discussing Wang Shu’s work and practice in terms of:
– who he/she is,
– what sources of inspirations do they have,
– what their design philosophy is,
– how their work and design ideas changed over time,
when they started, and where their practice is.
3. Your presentation should include three examples of Wang Shu’s work, carefully chosen and well presented. This work should be organized in some way: chronologically, typologically, geographically, etc. Your report should have a good balance between images. The intent is to convey through images a strong sense of the unique body of work of that practice.
