TASK DESCRIPTION

Organisations today work in an environment of major and constant change. Organisation managers have learnt to adapt and adopt flexible methods of working where once the structure of their work was uniform and rigid. This method of management and organisation working has called for a new type of manager, leader and culture within organisation. The skills of leaders and managers today have changed to reflect this. Highly prized now is the leader, manager and organisation employees who can anticipate and respond to changes in the environment with fluency and consistency of its operation. Those organisations that have a culture that support change and working practices that are based on the theories and principles of change thrive whilst others that are so adept in these areas struggle and decline. Change is seen as an opportunity to grow or survive by some and as a threat by others both within the organisation context and the people within these the organisation. However, change is now a constant within the organisation environment and is a factor that has to be managed alongside its other challenges.

 

The focus of this assignment is to critically evaluate one change that an organisation has implemented over the last two years. This critical evaluation should examine each stage of the change process and draw a conclusion on its success/failure. It should further develop recommendations for future improvement within the change process of the organisation.

 

The assignment is to be undertaken on an individual basis and contains two parts:

Part 1- Professional discussion – 10 minutes NB. Remember to upload your bibliography to Turnitin prior to discussion delivery.

Part 2- Critical analysis and evaluation- to be presented in a formal report. Word count 3500 words

Assignment Tasks

Task 1 – PROFESSIONAL DISCUSSION

Prepare and deliver the following information:

Identify and choose a major change that has taken place in a public, private or 3rd sector organisation during the last two years.

Provide background information on the organisation involved in the ‘change’. This should include organisation historical development, overview of the product or service it offers and current market position i.e profit, surplus/deficit, market share.

Discuss the nature of the change being examined. Include in this discussion the micro/macro environmental causes for the change.

In support of your professional discussion prepare and upload to Turnitin prior to your discussion delivery a bibliography of your research resource evidence.

 

Task 2 – REPORT

Task 1

Using information gathered for your proposal on the organisation provide a brief background on the organisation and the need for the change that had been implemented.

Task 2

Critically analyse the nature of the change undertaken by the organisation under investigation. To support this produce a SWOT and PESTLE to demonstrate where the main influences came for the change.

Task 3

Discuss the involvement of ‘leaders and leadership’ in the process of change. Within the discussion describe ‘complex’ areas of change leaders were involved in.

Task 4

Identify and discuss the culture of the organisation and it’s influence on the change process.

Task 5

Describe how ‘change agents’ helped or hindered the change process on an internal or external basis.

Task 6

Throughout the report critically review and discuss the impact change models and theories have had on the organisations change process.

Task 7

Provide a conclusion to the report and compile a development plan to aid improvements in future planning and implementation of a change process within the organisation. Please see development plan template on Moodle page.
