Consumer engagement is a top priority for many healthcare organizations I work with. Telehealth is a great way to not only engage consumers, but also has the potential to reduce costs and improve health outcomes. Three NCHL competencies that will be touched on in my poster presentation are strategic orientation, change leadership and innovation.

NCHL (2018) defines strategic orientation as “the ability to consider the business, demographic, etho-cultural, political and regulatory implications of decisions and develop strategies that continually improve the long-term success and viability of the organization” (p. 9). When deciding a telehealth strategy, healthcare organizations must possess and exercise this competency. Strategic orientation will help the organization decide what type of telehealth to put into practice and how to phase accordingly.

NCHL (2018) defines change leadership as “the ability to energize stakeholders and sustain their commitment to changes in approaches, processes, and strategies” (p. 9). This competency is important when implementing any change within an organization. Telehealth being a major strategy, change leadership is key in ensuring there is buy in and commitment from providers.

NCHL (2018) defines innovation as “the ability to approach one’s work and the organization in new and breakthrough ways, including applying complex concepts, developing creative new solutions or adapting previous solutions in promising ways” (p. 33). Telehealth strategies fall into innovation especially in ways organizations decide to implement. This competency will be discussed as a part of my poster presentation.
