Write an analytical essay (3-5 pages) on Catch-22. Be sure to use appropriate textual evidence, use correct MLA citation, write in the 3rd person, and write in the present tense.

Choose one of the following essay topics:

1. Argue whether or not the protagonist of Catch-22, Yossarian, is a redeemable character and if he has any heroic qualities. Explain why or why not. Also, argue if there are any true villains in this story, or if the ugly nature of war and life cancels out all heroes and villains.

2. Argue whether Joseph Heller is criticizing the war (specifically World War II) or criticizing the way that the war is being carried out by the men in charge.
