Horace’s Trip from Hell – Pre-modern History

Horace, a well-known Roman poet, is here travelling as a common man.

Discuss 1-2 examples of the difficulties he faces as he travels on the Appian Way, as well as the degree to which those difficulties help us to understand Roman expectations of comfort during travel.
