As part of corporate social responsibility, Teva Pharmaceutical’s corporate office, located in NJ, decided to donate medicines for pain management to the people of Haiti affected by a recent natural disaster caused by a massive earthquake. Therefore, Mira, a corporate executive, selected Weston, FL as the site to help with this mission considering the plant capability and logistic convenience. As a result, Parag, site head at Weston, received a phone call from Mira on Friday afternoon requesting to ship ten thousand doses of Acetaminophen Tablets to Haiti by next Monday evening. Consequently, Parag asked his direct reports, production manager, packaging supervisor, and shipping supervisor to help with this mission and deliver the shipment as requested by the corporate office in a timely manner. Since all three departments rely on one another, they were asked to work together and coordinate, avoiding communication gaps.
Moreover, a collective effort between all departments was expected by Shah because of the shipping department’s dependency on the production and packaging departments to get their work done. He has also emphasized utilizing available resources efficiently and avoiding overspending.
However, the company’s production manager, who was recently hired, was skeptical about production department capability. At the same time, the packaging supervisor expressed some concern over the employees’ availability who are willing to work on the weekend. On the contrary, the shipping supervisor, who is also an immigrant from Haiti, had no problem jumping on the assignment and getting the job done. The shipping supervisor knew that he has some Haitian immigrants working in his team and was sure that would not have a problem finding enough volunteers who can work on weekend or extended hours for the special assignment if needed.
