ILO3: Apply a critical understanding of the applied manufacturing techniques used to produce fixed prosthodontics restorations
Assessment Brief
Fixed dental bridges can be produced in a range of materials and through a range of methods. Produce a 5000 word evidence based report to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of metal-ceramic bridges produced via traditional analogue techniques, and digitally produced zirconia bridges.
Instructions:
A patient requires a 3-unit fixed-fixed rigid-connector anterior bridge (retainers on UR1 and UL2, pontic on UL1).
Compare and contrast metal-ceramic bridges produced via traditional analogue techniques with digitally produced zirconia bridges for this case.
Discuss the fit, anatomical form and function of these bridge restorations produced by these two methods.
Appraise the material properties of the two restorations. Include an evaluation of aesthetic properties, strength, biocompatibility and impact on the oral tissues. Also consider design of substructures where required such as space requirements and ceramic support. Clinical preparation design/requirements should also be considered. Compare and contrast manufacture processes for the two restorations. Include a comparison of layering processes/options. Discuss longevity/success rates of each bridge in relation to their inherent properties and data from clinical studies. Draw report to a close with a clear and rational conclusion.
Your report should:
Minimum Secondary Research Source Requirements:
Level HE5 – It is expected that the Reference List will contain between ten and fifteen sources. As a MINIMUM the Reference List should include two refereed academic journals and four academic books.
You must logically plan to achieve all the requirements of the assignment
