ASSIGNMENT

Civic engagement is when “people take an active role in the life of their communities”. There are multiple components to civic engagement, starting with awareness of the issues of your community, followed by analysis of the structures that have created those issues (investigated from multiple perspectives), and finally empathy towards the people who are embroiled within these community issues. Civic engagement concerns individual liberty and public good (Bachin, 2018, The Aspen Institute).

The aim of this assignment is to connect civic engagement with course material. Briefly, you will start by selecting and analyzing a contemporary social issue within the subjects of marriage & intimate relationships. Then, you will connect this social issue to material from this course, including theory, concepts, and processes. This will be followed by summary of prior literature that attempts to investigate the dynamics and structures of your social issue. Finally, you will identify and analyze organizations that support communities dealing with this social issue.
