Ethical decision-making requires you to tap into your values, morals, and sense of fairness, so that you can be comfortable with your decisions, and so your decisions do not cause harm to others. Because each individual experiences different family, cultural, and societal influences, they may see the same situation, yet determine different courses of action to address it. Making good ethical decisions requires a trained sensitivity to ethical issues and a practiced method for exploring the ethical aspects of a decision and weighing the considerations that should impact our choice of a course of action. Having a method for ethical decision-making is absolutely essential.
For this assignment, Do the following:
1. Review the ethical dilemma you have identified in Supportive Submissions 1 and 2.
2. Explore and critically examine the opposing positions/options involved.
3. Apply an ethical framework to come to a conclusion of which actions you would recommend and support.
4a. Prepare a write-up that fully explains how you came to your decision.
4b. Explain each segment of your framework.
4c. Explain how your ethical issue was then applied within each area of the framework.
*Note– Your write-up should be detailed and clearly demonstrate how you were able to apply your ethical framework in order to come to an ethically acceptable conclusion.
You are welcome create your own (preferred) or to use an ethical framework of your choice (remember to give proper acknowledgment). Should you choose to create your own ethical framework, the following will be helpful in guiding you towards successful development.
Principles of ethical public health practice
General moral considerations
Justificatory conditions
Guidance/example provided in your textbook
You may also consider adding a component of biblically rooted justification
Should you choose to use an existing framework, Santa Clara University gives a solid explanation of ethical standards and provides a nice ethical framework for decision-making here: http://www.scu.edu/ethics/practicing/decision/framework.html
