This assignment includes two parts. Unlike the discussion you’ve already done this term, this one will not be done in groups, but individually.
PART ONE: For this part, you will be required to produce a short response (approx. 200 words) to ONE of the topics listed below. The response has to be posted in the appropriate online forum
PART TWO: For this part, you will then be required to provide short comments (Approx. 100
words) to any TWO responses posted by the others in the class. Your comments may be in reaction to any of the issues raised by the initial response, and you may either agree or disagree with the response. You may respond to any comment on any of the topics.
These online discussions are meant to be somewhat informal, allowing you the opportunity to provide a more personal response to the texts and the issues within them, as well as to allow you
to enter into discussion with one another. Consider it an online version of in-class discussion.
Feel free to post more responses than required if you wish to.
When writing your response, be sure to write in complete, grammatically correct sentences, with proper punctuation and capitalization. This is still a writing exercise, so the quality of your
writing will be part of your assessment. I also expect that you will be courteous and respectful when responding to other students. Any insulting or disparaging comments will likely be met with anger from the class and will be reflected in your grade.
To post a response to one of the topics, just click on the topic and then, on the next page click
“Start a New Thread”. What will appear will look like an email window where you will enter a
subject line and the body of your response. When you are finished, click on “Post”.
To reply to another student’s post, click on the “Reply” button.
Topics:
1. This course presents writing as a step-by step process, which helps to demystify what is often a confusing and difficult task. Even despite this, writing of any kind can be quite difficult. Based on your experiences, what are the greatest challenges you face and a writer, and what are you doing, or what have you done to overcome those challenges?
2. What is it that makes a great writer? Why does one author’s work seem to jump out and impress us, while another’s work has us reaching for the paper shredder? What most impresses
you about great writing? What authors or works have you been most impressed by and why?
