1. immigrants intentionally (and unintentionally) choose to keep some aspects of their origin-country, while accepting others of their new home-country (e.g. values, behavior, culture, language, fashion, etc). Based on your observation of immigrants (yourself, family, neighbor, friend, public figure, etc) analyze what they kept versus what they newly adopted. How did this affect their assimilation to the American society?
2. Compare the generational difference in family living arrangements within your own family (fertility, mortality, divorce, age at marriage, cohabitation, same-sex unions, etc). Call or email to interview your grandparents, uncle/aunt, parents or neighbors. What has changed cross-generation? What are the cultural and economic factors to these changes? How does this connect to the societal changes we learned in class?
