Exact Instructions Challenge – due by 12pm on 10/26

(1) Re-watch “The Exact Instructions Challenge” (Video) to review the do’s and don’ts of instruction writing.

(2) For this exercise, you are tasked with writing instructions to a non-specialist audience on how to draw something, such as a rabbit, a building, or a flower. It has to be something moderately complex and will require at least 10 steps/tasks.

(Note: Before writing your instructions, review the VII. Instructional or Training Manual Readings above. This will help you decide on the best rhetorical choices for your instructions.)

(3) Create a new Google Doc and write up your instructions. Make sure you change the privacy settings, so anyone who clicks the link can view it. Do not reveal what it is you’re instructing us to draw. Just write the instructions to drawing it.

(4) When you are done composing your instructions, test out the instructions yourself, or, if possible, have a family member or friend test them.

(5) Revise your instructions based on what happened in the testing phase and any feedback obtained from your tester(s).

(6) Post your work as a comment/reply to THIS post. The due date is by 12pm on 10/26.
