Grounded theory (Glaser & Strauss, 1967) involves the collection and analysis of data. The theory is “grounded” in actual data, which means the analysis and development of theories happens AFTER you have collected the data. In other words, you don’t simply come up with your hypothesis first, and test it in a lab. Grounded theory was a way to legitimize qualitative research at a time when quantitative research was king.

Write a brief discussion, based on grounded theory, explaining in your own words 1) what is communication? 2) How is strategy a part of communication? To consider: What have you observed in your own life? And 3) finally, write a working definition for strategic communication. Use your own words; careful with borrowing too much from sources.
