The Necklace, by Guy de Maupassant, is an example of a short story that relies heavily on situational irony for effect. But in this case, unlike O Henry's stories Gift of the Magi and Ransom of Red Chief, the author seems to be using irony in a manner that is critical and disapproving of Mme.
