The Assignment:
Compare and contrast two poems in terms of subject matter, theme, and language in order to evaluate them effectively. Ultimately, which is a more satisfying poem, and why? How does each poet communicate with the reader and use images? How does the poem end–is there closure, or does it leave a question for the reader? To make a meaningful comparison, be sure to choose two poems that genuinely have some things in common, perhaps a similar theme or subject.
