Case Study:
Paige Miller, age 27, is your assigned patient again today. She was 5 days post-op for ovarian and uterine cancer when you last cared for her. Paige has been withdrawn and eating very little. She has refused to see her 3-year-old daughter since the surgery. Her husband, Dave Miller has been very supportive and he is very worried about Paige. He has asked to speak privately with you for a moment. He states that he is quite concerned about Paige. She has been depressed since her mother died 6 months ago from cancer and this may just be too much for her to recover from. Now at 8 days post-op Paige asked you about her prognosis. Before the diagnosis of cancer, she and Dave had been talking about getting pregnant again. Now, she knows that is out of the question. She tells you that she really doesn’t even remember what the surgeon or doctors told her, they were in and out so fast and she just couldn’t listen at that point. She is very anxious about having cancer so soon after her mother died from the same disease.
