Students are required to write an essay of 2,500 words on ONE of the following topics:
To what extent has the modern Middle East and North Africa (MENA) been shaped by the impact of European colonialism?
OR
Why did authoritarian forms of governance become the norm in the postcolonial MENA?
OR
How do you explain the rise to prominence of the military in postcolonial political life in the MENA?
OR
Assess the view that oil is the most important factor in the political economy of the MENA?
