*Read all of the directions/guidelines below*

(You must properly cite the readings and lecture according to the guidelines below to be eligible for full credit–more details after the prompt)

Prompt: Based on the assigned reading and lecture for Week 2, explain how the differences between the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution reflect the concerns of and disagreements among the early “American” political leaders/thinkers (i.e., the “Founding Fathers”) about the proper role of government. Do the differences between the documents give us any clear sense about whether the US government is meant to be a republic or a democracy? Is there any theoretical or practical significance to the distinction between a republic and a democracy?

” Make sure that all references to the assigned reading include page numbers [e.g., (Smith, pg. 15).] and, if citing a lecture, all references to the lecture are cited by the title of the lecture and the particular week it is for [e.g., (Week 2, Debating the American Founding Part 1)].

Citations should be placed at the end of the relevant sentence(s), prior to the final punctuation. If you include mentions of current events, news stories, or historical events, please provide proper citations for those as well. Please use in-text/parenthetical citations, not footnotes or endnotes, for all citations. Remember, you need to include citations for all references to words AND ideas that are not your own, regardless of whether you are quoting directly or not.). Please email me if you have a specific question about the reference/citation requirements. Any post that does not include any properly cited references will not receive credit. Posts that have some properly cited references but are missing other citations where they are necessary, will receive partial credit.

You are discouraged from using or consulting sources other than the assigned readings and lectures, except for additional factual support (not alternative theoretical perspectives/interpretations) where necessary (provided these outside sources are not used as a substitute for substantial engagement with the assigned material, and they are properly cited–including a works cited at the end of your post).
