Imagine using a levelling instrument and graduated staff, level the stations of two controlled traverses. Undertake the following two surveys:

i. A levelling survey between the centre point of the kerb at the East entrance and the gully grating at South entrance on our associate college( London South East College Upper holly hill)(Measurement is already provided in the attached document for the site).

ii. A flying level survey starting and finishing on the kerb at the East entrance (Measurement provided). Take levels down Upper Holly Hill Road, up Holly Hill Road and then back into the site via the West entrance, crossing the site using the road to finish at the East entrance (Use google map to see the site).

Prepare a report that covers the following:

The data obtain for each of the survey and use both the HPC and the rise and fall methods to calculate the reduced level at every station. Show all the necessary check to validate your calculation.

Explain briefly the steps used in carrying out the surveying task and include diagram where necessary.

Check the mis-closure error for the flying survey and update the values for the reduced level. If the error exceeds 50mm, repeat the process until the results are within required tolerance.

Identify and discuss four sources of errors encountered during the surveying task and explain how these errors could be minimised.

Plot the sectional view for each of the survey based on the computed results and briefly explain.

Explain the application of levelling in the field using three different examples.
