Description

There are 4 questions, you need to answer 1 of the following:

1. “… even those who will never apply mathematics should learn mathematics because they need it as one aspect of their human beings.” (Freudenthal, 1973: 68-9)

By considering this quotation, critically discuss in detail the arguments put forward for teaching mathematics in schools.

2. The DfES (2006) point out that learning mathematics through investigation allows pupils to become “involved in finding out for themselves, asking and answering questions, and sharing what they have discovered with others”.

Critically discuss whether learning mathematics through investigation is beneficial.

3. “Assessment is an integral part of effective teaching and learning” (QCA, 2007)

Considering the above quotation in relation to mathematics, critically discuss whether assessment is an important feature of teaching and learning mathematics.

4. Critically evaluate the effects of parents, teachers and government policies on early mathematical development.

I have added 25 as the number of sources, although more you include the better.
