Discussion 2.1:

This week you are going to learn about Bowen’s Multigenerational Family Therapy. This approach observes patterns across at least three generations and concentrates on the difficulties associated with triangulation and failure to achieve a differentiated self. The role of the counsellor in this model is a coach. The counsellor’s purpose is to strengthen the strongest, most differentiated members on the belief that changing any part of the system will change the whole system (Bitter, 2014).

Discussion 2.2:

I appreciate your post on issues related to confidentiality. Butler and colleagues (2010) conducted a study investigating therapists’ attitudes regarding infidelity secrets. The study found that disclosure are good steps toward healing and attachment security.

Please explore your reactions to these results.

How would you manage/encourage such disclosure in therapy which couple in which one member of the couple was engaging in infidelity?
