Paper details:

1. Recall my introduction of the term “separate spheres.” For a refresher, this Wikipedia page is not bad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separate_spheres. I suggested that Hurston is critical of this idea. Please find and identify two passages that might support that claim; quote from and discuss one of them. Remember to follow the model supplied for the correct use of quotes (It’s in the Content folder).

2. Hurston studied with one of the most prominent anthropologists of her day. Critics suggest that she’s just as interested in depicting the cultures of African-Americans as she is in following Janie’s individual development. Explain how critics might have come to this conclusion, and how thinking of Hurston as an ethnographer explains some aspect of this text to you.
