Final Assessment: The Ultimate Surthrival Guide for COMM1000: Introduction to College Communication.
COMM1000 (Introduction to College Communication) – Professor Andreia Arai-Rissman
For your Final Assessment, demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the
COMM1000 course learning outcomes— applying critical reading strategies; applying
critical thinking strategies; and applying writing strategies— by creating a “surthrival”
guide for future COMM1000 students.
Part 1: Copy the Wakelet collection to your workspace
1. Create a Wakelet account here.
2. Copy this collection (basically a template) to your Wakelet workspace. Make sure
you are already signed into your Wakelet account.
3. Click “Home” in the upper right–hand corner to go to your workspace and start
editing the template.
4. Watch this video to see how to use the template.
Part 2: Create your Surthrival Guide
1. Give your Surthrival Guide an appropriate title. It makes sense to use the term“Surthrival Guide” but what else should you add to your title?
2. Edit the description for your Surthrival Guide.
3. Delete the “How to Use the Ultimate Surthrival Guide Wakelet Collection” video
4. Edit Section 1: About the Author. Make sure you delete the instructions to the
student.
5. Edit Section 2: Your advice for surthriving critical reading in college. Make sure you delete the instructions to the student.
6. Edit Section 3: Your internet resource for surthriving critical reading in college. Make sure you delete the instructions to the student.
7. Edit Section 4: Your advice for surthriving critical thinking in college. Make sure you delete the instructions to the student.
8. Edit Section 5: Your internet resource for surthriving critical thinking in college. Make sure you delete the instructions to the student.
9. Edit Section 6: Your advice for surthriving writing in college. Make sure you delete the instructions to the student.
10. Edit Section 7: Your internet resource for surthriving writing in college. Make sure you delete the instructions to the student.
11. Edit Section 8: Wrapping up your surthrival guide. Make sure you delete the
instructions to the student.
Part 3: Polish your Surthrival Guide
1. Aim for 500 to 700 words. The general rule is to be concise while still using specific
and concrete language so that you are clear and detailed.
2. Edit your grammar, spelling, and punctuation so that your writing is not confusing or difficult to understand.
3. Add appropriate images and consider enhancing your Surthrival Guide with a video
of yourself.
Part 4: Submit your Surthrival Guide
1. Make your Wakelet “Unlisted” and then export your Surthrival Guide as a PDF.
Watch this video to see how to download a PDF of your Surthrival Guide
2. Upload the PDF of your Surthrival Guide to Blackboard by Wednesday, April 20th at 10 pm EST on Blackboard.
