First, 500-word draft.
For your initial draft of the Descartes’s paper you should have picked your key element you’ll analyze from the Meditations, you should have some idea of the objection you’ll be voicing from Mills, and should have created a tentative thesis statement which includes the key point of your objection. This doesn’t need to be a fully formulated essay but you should have the bones of the essay, whether in the form of an outline, or a rough draft. You should shoot for this to be ~500 words at least, but more is also good.
For this paper, choose one aspect of Descartes’s arguments (for example, distrust of the senses, proofs for the existence of God, the meditative element of his approach, hyperbolic doubt etc.) analyze its significance within Descartes’s overall project, and assess its strength against an objection from from Charles Mills. Your analysis should result in a determinate thesis, a clear exposition of the significance of your chosen aspect within Descartes’s overall project, and an evaluation of the success and or significance of Descartes’s project in light of a clearly explain objection from either Mills or Elizabeth. Your paper should argue either for the success of Descartes’s arguments against the objections, or the success of the objections over Descartes’s thesis, through careful analysis of the text and through philosophical arguments. Your paper should be ~5 pages(1250-1500 words)
