Introduction The introduction should be no more than two paragraphs
Create an interesting hook/attention grabber. Then provide important biographical information on the author you have selected (5-7sentences).
In another paragraph introduce the short story, poem, or speech by your author that you will focus your paper on. Give a brief summary of what the text is about (5 sentences). The last sentence should be your statement.
Claim: Create an argumentative statement that focuses on the themes and or literary elements used in your poem, short story, speech you have selected by your author. You must have three subpoints in your argument.
Format: The (title of the work and author) uses (list two writing styles the author incorporates in his or her work) to reveal the overall themes.
(Ex. In the poem, “Phenomenal Woman” by Maya Angelou, the author uses symbolism and figures of speech to reveal her themes of social and historical oppression of women of color and why they should be celebrated.)
Supporting Paragraphs- the supporting paragraphs should be thorough and fully support your statement. This section should be at least six paragraphs.

Conclusion: Restate the argument. What does all this mean? Point to broader implications. How can the themes and ideas presented in your paper be applicable or relevant to the masses. This is your chance to remind your audience why the topics discussed or why your literary piece is significant.
